Nga Hoe Waka Cultural Group was established March 2005. Their journey started with a group of young warriors inspired by the coming of a very beautiful "taonga" (treasure), on loan for two years to the people of Melbourne.

Te Karangatahi (One voice) is the name given to the 40ft long traditionally carved Maori waka (canoe). Te Rangatahi Maori Club Inc. (Perth) are proud owners of this waka.

We were very fortunate to have in our midst a couple of young men who had years of experience pertaining to all aspects of rowing a waka. With their expertise and experience, they were able to pass on the knowledge they had to these young warriors.

Together with the guidance of our elders, (kaumatua) these young warriors became nga kaihoe o te waka. (crew of the waka).
